Buyer’s Guide To Find Out Which Is The Best Baseball Bat For 7-8 Year Old
If you are totally new to the softball or baseball bats then let me tell you a little bit about the right baseball bat or the ideal baseball bat for young players.
Materials
Baseball bats can be made out of three kinds of materials –
1. Wooden Bats
Wood bat is the oldest kind of bat and an excellent bat type for the first-timers. If your kid is already 7-8 years old and has not yet touched any kinds of usual bats then you should start with a wooden bat. Wooden bats are safe for children at this age.
I have two kids and my younger one showed much more interest than my daughter who is the eldest and I made a wooden bat myself for him.
Wooden lightweight bats are made of ash wood, hickory, maple and bamboo. I usually make my own bat with ash wood. It is a durable bat and swing speed is good for bat control. If you want to know how to make a wooden bat then you can try my blog on it.
Although my daughter did not show much interest at first, she was acquainted with composite bats from the beginning due to my playing baseball as a coach right now.
2. Alloy Bats
One piece alloy bats made out of aluminum alloys are metal bats made from different kinds of alloys.
They are durable bats and the best bats for many.
These bats are made with single wall or double walls and many lightweight bat made out of alloys are ruling the market right now.
Most of the alloy bats are right bats for little league as they are USA baseball approved and BBCOR bat for a young player.
Youth players often enjoy playing baseball with them as the batted ball coefficient or BBCOR approval is perfect.
They do have a good balanced swing and you can increase bat speed with them.
Many alloy bats are military and air-force grade that can have high durability and strength.
Baseball players who are in the Major Leagues often suggest alloy bats as the first youth bat for your kid.
3. Composite bats
Composite bat properly gives a taste of metal bats as they have good bat weight and technology to become the best kid baseball bat.
They are lighter bats as tee ball bats and many USA bats made out of composite materials are at the top of USA youth baseball bat lists.
Personally, I am a fan of composite bats and many baseball bats made out of composite materials have been used by me.
Composite bats for 7 year or 8 year olds can give a great experience on youth baseball bats at an early age and you can prepare your kid for USA baseball-sanctioned leagues.
Many renowned companies focus only on this kind of bats and many baseball bats for 7 or 8 years old are made out of this material.
As USA baseball bats are very popular and you should at least give one composite bat to your kid for trying at an early age.
Although my bat length is not suitable for her as they are wrong-sized bats for youth baseball and heavy bats for 7 year olds, she likes the feel of them.
One Piece Vs 2 Piece Bat
After the material, I would like to give you a few details about 2 piece vs 1 piece bats.
As the two types of bats are not always suitable for young players and many baseball players find only one type suitable for them, I have decided to shed a light in my bat review for the best baseball bat for 7-8 year olds.
I have separate bat reviews on 2 piece vs 1 piece bats and how to choose between them the best for you. You can also check that out.
In brief, one piece bats are made out of one piece of material. It can be wood, alloy or composite.
A good one piece bat’s drop weight is perfectly balanced and the right size bat for a young player can amplify the force on the bat.
As a result, the ball can be hit further than expected.
On the other hand, a 2 piece bat is made out of two pieces joined together. It is a good choice if your kid misses often.
2 piece bats are the best bat for mishit stings and force control. They do have good grip and bat size.
Many USA baseball bats are two pieces and you do not need to think twice if they are US or BBCOR approved.
But the best bat size and bat’s length should match the figure of your kid. That is the most important thing.
Balanced or End-loaded
A balanced swing is done with a balanced bat. It is balanced from head to barrel and to the end. It gives a good grip and helps to throw the ball with the force put onto the bat.
On the other hand, an end-loaded bat has more weight on the end. This type of bat can put extra force on the ball.
For a young player, if experienced, a balanced bat can give a good feeling while for a batsman with extra force can have good swing speed and extended sweet spot with an end-loaded bat.
Considering all the above points, you should find the best baseball bat for a 7-8 year old kid of yours.
Size & Weight of The Bat
The size of the bat is very important for a kid. A kid must get used to the bat easily.
For 7-8 years old kids, 24-28 inch bats are alright.
Most of the kids use 27 inch bats as they are the ideal ones.
If your kid lifts a baseball bat parallel to the ground in front of him or herself for a minimum 20-30 seconds comfortably, then that is the right weight bat for him or her.
Best baseball bat for 7-8 year old
Now, you know what factors we should consider at the time of using baseball bats. Now, read my reviews for the following bats. Hope you will find the best one for your child.
1. Louisville Slugger Prime 2019 Youth Baseball Bat (-10) (Best Composite Bat)
First of all, no doubt, a Louisville Slugger bat length, bat drop, and bat size is always USA baseball approved for little league.
As MLB players’ most favorite bat brand is Louisville Slugger for their old book rules following, I put it on the first place of my list.
This is quite a good bat if your youth baseball player is 7-8 years old.
The bat is a composite one and as an advanced feature, it is made out of 3 pieces. So, certainly it just makes the mishit stings vanish without any doubt.
Not just little league, the bat length and size is perfect for all the league games for 7-8 years old kids like aabc, Dixie Youth baseball as well as Pony Baseball.
It is a great bat with a bigger barrel and a drop weight of -10.
Composite material with vibration control and a comfortable grip made this one the best choice for my daughter.
This was perfect according to her size and I bought it without thinking further. Yes, I have tried many other bats and they will come later.
But at the first position, I kept the one I liked most and bought one for her. No doubt, I want her to play in the league games and that’s why I have bought this bat for her.
PROs
- Advanced three piece composite bat
- Nearly no sting can be felt when we played with the bat
- The break in is smooth and perfect
- Right size bat for a 7 year or 8 year old
- Accepted at almost all the league games
CONs
- Not everyone is a fan of composite bat and 3 piece bat
- Color is not suitable for everyone
- Not a one piece bat that maximizes the force rather than concealing the vibration
- You will need to break-in the bat
Comment on Price
Yes, the bat is one of the best and one of the most accepted size bats in the market. You can get it for under $350. The price is rather expensive compared to other bats for a 7 or 8 years old. Still the price was worth it for my kid and she enjoyed playing since the break-in.
2. DeMarini Baseball Bat 2019 Uprising Baseball Bats (-10) (Best Alloy Bat)
DeMarini baseball bats have high demand among MLB players and they do have great bats for your 7-8 year old kid.
Technically DeMarini uprising 2019 is a heavier bat, drop bat of -11 is technically a good 27 inch bat that gives a good feel for a 7-8 year old. Even a 12 year old kid can swing it.
So, this is a bat for 7-12 year olds which makes it a perfect choice for the long term.
When it comes to material, DeMarini 2019 is an Aluminum alloy bat, a great bat for softball or baseball with a good durability.
It has a good pop and DeMarini mainly made it for boys. But my daughter liked it. If I did not buy the Louisville Slugger then I would have certainly bought it for her.
For your information DeMarini has other good bats but I like the 2019 uprising version (-10) the best.
Among all the aluminum alloy youth bats, the DeMarini 27 inch barrel bat is the best USA bat made out of alloy in my opinion.
All youth players should try DeMarini bats minimum once. I have got some other comparative articles I wrote about DeMarini youth baseball bats. You can check out.

- Best baseball bat for alloy bat lovers

The bat is one of the best 7-8 year old bat under $200. As an aluminum alloy bat, this is highly durable and your kid can use it till he/she is 12 years old easily.
3. Rawlings Raptor USA Youth Baseball Bat (-10) (Most Economical Choice)
First I should say, this is one of the best budget-friendly good quality baseball bats for 7-8, even 10 year old youth players.
Best baseball bats often do not need to be the most priced bats and this is a real example of it.
Rawlings has produced many youth baseball bats over the years and the bat drop as well as bat size from Rawlings follows the USA youth baseball bat rules most of the time.
This is not an exception and Rawlings Raptor is approved in almost all of the USA league games. This bat is perfect for a 7-10 year old kid.
For material, this is another aluminum alloy bat like the DeMarini 2019 uprising and can be very good with your kid’s force as it is a one piece metal bat.
A 2 and 1/4 inch barrel, maximized force and maximized sweet spot makes the bat stand out from the crowd.
Rawlings is a good name when it comes to baseball and softball. We have some great reviews on Rawlings baseball gloves. You can check them out if you like.

- Extended sweet spot and maximized barrel

The bat is one of the most budget-friendly baseball bats for 7-8 year old youth players. You can even get it under $50 if you get it from a good source.
4. Easton Speed USA Youth Baseball Bat (-10) (Best Budget-Friendly)
Like Louisville Slugger, Easton is a big name when it comes to baseball accessories. Easton Speed is one of their best bats for young players under 10 year old.
This is not a tee ball bat for your information. Rather it is a league approved bat for most of the league games.
If you are looking for popular baseball bats for 7 year old kids that already have a good name, then Easton Speed is the one.
It is not a high price bat. Rather it is one of the best bats under $50 budget.
It is a one piece alloy bat too and has a good outlook.
The alloy is aerospace grade and the bat is known for great durability.
It is a balanced bat with a good end cap, pop and comfortable grip.
I have tried it with my daughter and it is lighter than expected. The speed was around 70-80 per ball and yes, I bought it with the Louisville Slugger.
It is for the warm days when the bats may get damaged.

One of the best baseball bats under $50 with USA approval. The bat has an astonishing look on the field. It was worth every penny buying it with the other bat for my kid.
5. Easton Pink Sapphire Fastpitch Bat (-10) (Best Fastpitch)
This is her only bat from Easton for softball. The bat is approved by USA and USSSA games but only as a fastpitch bat.
Easton Pink Sapphire is a great bat with a cool outlook attractive to all girls out there.
My little girl tried it a few times. She liked it but not as good as the Louisville Slugger as this bat is meant for fastpitch only.
If you are looking for a fastpitch bat for your 7 or 8 year old, then this one’s for you.
It is a mixed metal bat with aluminum handle and has approval even at the ISA and ISF games too.
No doubt, it is a good choice and you can let your kid play anywhere with it.
The handle is thin and meant for girls with a cushioned grip.
PROs
- Meant for girl kids who wants to play softball fastpitch very seriously
- Blend metal body with aluminum handle for better durability
- Cool outlook for girls
- Approved at most of the fastpitch league games
CONs
- Boys may not like the outlook
- Handle is too thin, even for girls

Comment on Price
You can have the bat for under $50. Comparatively a good softball bat for girls 7 or 8 years old. Best baseball bat for girls in this budget for fastpitch.
6. Franklin Sports Baseball Games Foam Bat (Best Starter)
I cannot help myself but mention this one trendy bat on my list. This is indeed a USA baseball bat approved in Major League Baseball and your kid can use it in any of the games.
This is an oversized foam bat for baseball and kids from 3 years old can start using it for practice and even little leagues.
Besides, this is the best baseball bat for 7-9 year old kids due to its size and fun at swinging.
The target is rather teaching to handle a real bat for kids and the set of balls with the bat makes it a good choice as the first bat for your kid.
24-inch length with 3.5-inch barrel makes it an ideal softball bat and MLB approval give all the kids a chance to use it on the field.

- Big barrel, literally with a lightweight foam body
- Best for teaching kids how to handle a real bat
- MLB approved officially
- Best foam bat out there

COMMENT ON PRICE
It is under $15 which makes it an ideal gift as a starter bat for your kid, even a 3-year-old.
Break-in Of A Composite Bat
I have decided to add this section so that you may learn about the break-in of a composite baseball bat. Even if the bat drop is perfect, you need to break in a composite bat.
Yes, bat drop has no function with the break-in.
If you can break-in a composite baseball bat perfectly, then it may last a lifetime.
As I have bought a composite bat for my 7 year old daughter, I played a few balls on the first day to break in the bat with her.
All the best baseball bats made out of composite materials need a good break in for the maximum performance.
In my opinion, the Louisville bat I have bought for my girl is one of the best baseball bats for her and we tried our very best to break in successfully. It was indeed a smooth experience.
First of all, never use a pitching machine to break in a composite bat. It can harm the bat a great deal. Always use balls thrown with your hands.
Now, let’s start with the operation.
Take the composite baseball bat. Tell your partner to throw the ball softly at your bat. Turn the bat 1/4 with your wrists and use 25% of your strength to hit the ball. Hit around 25-50 balls like this.
Now, rotate the bat minimum 1/2 with your wrists and use 50% of your strength. Defend 50 balls like this.
After this, use 75% of your strength with your wrists and rotate more. Play 50-100 more balls like this.
Now, use full strength and 100% of your force and play 100-200 balls like this.
If the bat is good then the break in will be smooth and fun.
