Our Top Picks for the Best Baseball Games on PS4: Baseball Fans Rejoice

The MLB season has just finished. Arent you already bored? Then PS4 has some crazy and amazing baseball games to remove your boredom.

Baseball is a great game to play, but with a PlayStation 4, you can really up your game.

So, what are the best baseball games for PS4?  Don’t worry, I’ve got this.

There aren’t that many unique baseball sports series to check out, but there are a few that are worth mentioning. The widely praised MLB series The Show from Sony San Diego comes out every year on the dot, but does this latest PlayStation-only entry hit or hit a home run?

I promise to stop making bad baseball sarcastic comments from now on.

We’ll talk about big new video games, a big import, virtual reality, and even arcade games on this list.

I hope you’ll find something here that you want to buy for your PS4 console. Because of this, I have spent a lot of time researching and playing a wide variety of baseball games on PS4 to compile this list of the top options.

Best Baseball Games for PS4

Many kids who grew up in the 1990s and 2000s got new video games and maybe even a new game console for the holidays.

Unlike football, with the Madden NFL series going back to 1988, or basketball, with NBA 2K since 1999, baseball has not had a dominating championship.

MLB The Show is the current leader, although EA Sports’ MVP Baseball reigned not long ago, and before that, Ken Griffey Jr. was the cover player.

We already knew that PS4 works with VR. Putting on the virtual reality headset makes gameplay seem unreal.

When you play sports games with VR goggles, you feel like you’re actually on the field. Is that all there is to it? How to make the game fun and also improve the player’s skills so they can get ready for a real match.

A lot of baseball game simulators let you hit the ball with an actual bat on a field packed with fans. All of this is done to make training not only fun but also helpful and safe.

I’ve mentioned here the 6 best baseball games, one of them is virtual reality (VR) games, so you can have the best experience and not miss baseball until the MLB season starts.

MLB The Show Series

The MLB The Show series is the only baseball game you can play if you want the best MLB simulation. This is as close as TV baseball will ever get to being played in real life.

The best way to talk about MLB The Show games without being too repetitive is to put them all in one point. For a long time, you could only play the MLB The Show video game series on Sony’s PlayStation consoles. Recently, that changed.

Nonetheless, if you’re a fan of Major League Baseball, you should pick up this game. Since MLB 14 The Show came out, the annual video games have been on the PlayStation 4, and MLB The Show 22 is the most recent one to come out.

Having said that, years of iteration have resulted in this version of the famed baseball sim having the most extensive content to date. If you have a hankering for the American game, you’ll find enough to keep you occupied.

MLB The Show 18

MLB The Show 18 keeps the tradition of authenticity

For sports video game enthusiasts, MLB The Show is a sure bet every year. Most years, the game is very fun to play and has some of the most in-depth features. Most things stay the same, but there are a few very important good and bad things.

In the past, MLB The Show games have excelled in recreating the feel of the game because of their realistic gameplay. 2018’s The Show keeps on the series’ tradition of authenticity.

It’s important to say right away that the gameplay in The Show is as good as it’s ever been. I’ve been playing this series on the PS2 since its inception, and this is simply one of the finest entries.

Hitting feels more natural and less frustrating, but not too easy. A redesigned feedback system, which looks like it was taken from the legendary MVP 2005, lets you quickly and easily judge the timing and contact of your swing.

You know that is more natural? Real-life hitting. It is more thrilling and a lot of fun. But it comes at a cost. The cost is hard work. Here are 7 Youth Baseball Hitting Drills to hit like a pro.

It’s been a while since The Show had a major aesthetic overhaul, but that’s OK with me since the gameplay keeps getting better and better every year. The visuals, however, have improved significantly in version 18. It’s mostly because the lighting is even better than in 16 and 17.

The views from the pitcher to the batter show more detail on the uniforms and equipment, and it seems like every year the ballparks look better.

The sophisticated gameplay and aesthetic enhancements can’t make up for MLB The Show’s lack of creativity or elimination of basic modes.

MLB The Show 19

For a while now, Sony’s MLB The Show series has been resting on its laurels. However, the 2019 edition has shattered that apathy with the addition of several new, significantly improved modes to the series’ standard set of tweaks and improvements.

Even though it feels less like a realistic simulation, Road to the Show has become one of the deepest sports career modes by incorporating overt RPG dynamics into the player progression. The new look and sound of MLB The Show 19 are very close to how real MLB games on TV look and sound. All thanks to some nice camera angles and visual touches that mimic broadcasting.

The most disappointing thing is that Franchise is still the mode that gets left behind. Overall, this is the best version since The Show 12 added Diamond Dynasty mode for the first time.

MLB The Show 20

MLB the show 20 pushes the limit of PS4

MLB The Show 20 doesn’t fix what wasn’t broken despite what seems like a small but notable upgrade. The visuals and animations are slightly more refined than The Show 19, but it’s becoming increasingly clear that Sony San Diego is testing the limits of what the PS4 and PS4 Pro are capable of.

When many players are on screen at once, even in “Faster” mode on PS4 Pro, which promises a “stable” 1080p image, you may notice occasional frame drops. For example, my PS4 Pro started making noises like a turbojet on a runway whenever I saw a team doing a victory parade in the rain.

MLB The Show 20 looks like it was made to be played on a PlayStation 5. It can be played in native 4K HDR and has some of the most detailed scans of real-world player faces, facilities, and animations ever.

Though the game’s new Showdown mode is fantastic, die-hard fans may be disappointed by the lack of other major updates. Those who haven’t played an MLB The Show game since 17 or 18 will reveal that MLB The Show 20 is the ideal place to get back into the series.

MLB The Show 21

MLB The Show 21 does a terrific job introducing its baseball simulator to Xbox users. Like MLB The Show 20, it still plays a little too safe most of the time. The game brings you small improvements like better menu organization and more customization options.

Almost everything looks almost the same. It also hurts one of the most important things about the series by making it impossible to transfer saves from previous games. That’s a strange choice, but it’s hard to believe that longtime fans would be turned off by features like the new Stadium Creator, cross-platform multiplayer, and DualSense support.

Even though MLB The Show 21 isn’t a 5-star, it’s still by far the best baseball game following MLB The Show 22, you can play on your PS4.

MLB The Show 22

MLB The Show 22 is the most realistic baseball game ever

According to IGN, MLB The Show 22 is a game of the averages.

Most of the main modes in MLB The Show 22 haven’t changed much, so it’s not surprising that they’re still fun. Hitting, pitching, and fielding are still great, and after a year with the newest hardware, hitting, pitching, and fielding look even better.

But there are some technical glitches, and co-op, which is the most innovative new feature, is fun but not fully developed. There is a clear push-and-pull between small improvements that work well and big additions that aren’t finished. This is the clearest sign so far that an annual release has its limits on the series.

MLB The Show 22 is still a great baseball game, but it’s starting to look like a star player whose best days are behind them.

This year, one of the most noticeable changes to the game is the addition of “Perfect-Perfect” hits, which are done when you make perfect contact and timing. As you might expect, these make hitting more effective because you can hit more home runs, assuming you have the skill to do so.

I have to admit that the sound effect is very thrilling.

Fielding gets more attention for the second year in a row, and more variables make the action feel more real. Experienced players, for instance, will react much faster to balls that jump and fly, quickly moving to get out of the way.

Poorer players, on the other hand, will turn the ball over more often when they are under pressure. This makes the game feel more lively as a whole.

“Road to the Show” is one of the best “create-a-player” modes, “Franchise Mode” has everything you could want. “Diamond Dynasty Mode” gives you a ton of ways to engage the game, from daily challenges to Risk-style conquest games to a variety of online options.”

Everything from the visuals to the animations to the gameplay is really realistic and fluid.

Super Mega Baseball Series

Don’t be fooled by the cartoony graphics and character animations; Super Mega Baseball 3 is a great baseball game that you’ll want to play again and again. Super Mega Baseball has fairly tight controls.

Even though there are only three games in this series, you shouldn’t miss out on them. It’s not an arcade game, but it also doesn’t try to be so realistic that casual baseball fans won’t want to play it.

Super Mega Baseball

Super Mega Baseball is a really silly baseball arcade game that makes me nostalgic for the ’90s. As I played, I kept thinking about how much my 10-year-old self would have loved a game like this.

The controls are straightforward, and the game may be set to a challenge suitable for players of varying abilities. Despite the lack of internet play, I find myself spending hours upon hours in the game’s season mode, which has a robust leveling system and detailed stat monitoring.

The boring presentation, on the other hand, takes away from the overall experience and makes it hard to play more than a few games at a time.

Super Mega Baseball 2

There’s no shame in expecting the unimaginable from a baseball game named “Super Mega Baseball 2,” whether that’s a massive home run, a fiery fastball, or some other kind of extraordinary performance. Super Mega Baseball 2 surprisingly seems more like a realistic baseball simulation.

If you look past the strangely styled players and over-the-top stadiums, you’ll find a fun, customizable, and real baseball game.

A good physics engine makes hits that feel real and keeps track of stats and models things like fatigue and morale in interesting ways. This realism is ruined by a few control issues that mess up the timing when batting and an AI that does not always do what you’d expect.

But the unique Ego system lets you change how hard-hitting and fielding are on their own until you find the right challenge. Even though it doesn’t have the MLB license, you could use the easy-to-use customization tools to make the whole MLB if you wanted to.

Super Mega Baseball 3

The third game in the Super Mega Baseball series doesn’t change how it’s played. It’s still grounded and easy to play. But it does add a lot of new features that make the price worth it.

Super MEGA BASEBALL FEATURES cartoony graphics and character animations

On the field, each pitch has a little more meaning now that baserunning is better and catching is more important. The new Franchise mode is also effective, mostly because of the implementation of interesting and understandable player traits.

Creating a living roster lets you make interesting choices without having to worry about money. The best part is that Super Mega Baseball 3 has the most appealing graphics, simple customizability, fully adjustable difficulty, and weird humor that the series is known for.

R.B.I. Baseball Series

RBI Baseball is a mix of a sports simulation and an arcade game. It’s neither the most realistic baseball game for fans nor the arcade-style game it used to be.

The last few games have made progress toward making it more like a real game, but RBI Baseball 21 doesn’t add significantly to that goal.

RBI Baseball 19

Even with improvements, R.B.I. 2019 isn’t a must-have baseball experience. It’s fun but not very deep, and many people won’t be able to get over the fact that they can’t play online.

It also has some technical problems, which is a shame since it’s not the most beautiful PS4 game. Still, if you like baseball, go ahead and buy it and play the game. Give a few good smacks.

Win a home run contest. Have a good time. Just don’t expect that fun to last, because you’ll get tired of it quickly.

R.B.I. Baseball 20

R.B.I. Baseball 20 is a good place to start for newcomers

R.B.I. 20 has been popular in the past because it is easy to play.

For a sport that has been struggling to keep fans interested, arcade action is a lot of fun. Making it easy to control as soon as you pick up the controller has helped the series do very well in the past.

You shouldn’t expect a challenging simulation here, nor will you find an overly complex game taking a lot of effort to understand. You can pick it up and play it, even if it has some flaws.

As a result of the reworking of such crucial components, the steps in this game seem a little heavier than in previous ones. Even when fielding, there is a noticeable difference in how things feel, and that’s a good thing.

For the game to keep getting better, the exhibition and gameplay must be improved even more. But R.B.I. Baseball 20 is a good place to start for newcomers and has changed enough that people who have played other games in the series should give it a look.

R.B.I. Baseball 21

To this far,  R.B.I. Baseball 21 has proven to be the series’ most impressive entry.

Unfortunately, the game wasn’t very good when it came out, which made more people want to play the main rival to the series, MLB The Show. But players might like the fact that this is more like playing a video game in an arcade.

This sports game is a sequel, but it doesn’t add any new modes to the web, exhibition, league, and derby modes that were already there. There are also no new sights or sounds. Among the things that come back are the same issues that have made RBI Baseball almost impossible to play for many seasons.

The zone between simulation and arcade can be exciting, and games like Forza, The Yard in Madden, and Volta in FIFA have shown that it can be a good place to be. RBI Baseball could have a great design, but it seems to have been made without much care, making it one of the most skeptical games released each year.

In the past, it was hard to understand why the MLB would put out this game the way it does. MLB The Show was only available on one platform, so anyone who wanted to play an MLB game on a platform other than PlayStation had to look for it in RBI.

But that’s not the case with this installment, and it’s hard to understand why the league allowed this to keep happening.

I’m guessing there are certain agreements made to meet, but as has occurred so often in the actual sport, maybe everyone just simply labels RBI Baseball a failure and accepts the buyout.

The artificial intelligence is fine, but most baseball players play the same way, so you might get bored pretty quickly. At least the player list can be changed, which is nice. This might be fun for people who like old-style baseball games.

MLB Home Run Derby VR

MLB Home Run Derby VR is a unique hitting game

The Home Run Derby VR What is just what it sounds like. It’s like the old home run games I used to play on my console when I was a kid. You stand at the plate and try to hit the ball out of this world by timing the pitch just right.

Like Rubik’s Cube, the original idea can’t really be improved upon. The developers didn’t add too much to this game, which is great, but what they did add was really good.

This game costs $19.99. However, subscribers of Viveport Infinity don’t have to pay a dime to access it. This game can be played on all of the major platforms, which is more than most VR games can right now.

You can buy it on platforms like Viveport, Steam, Oculus, and even PSVR. This game is compatible with all of the main headsets on the market today, so everyone can enjoy it.

In this game, you won’t be throwing, running the bases, or even fielding the ball. You’ll have to try to time the pitch just right, which seems like the most important part of the game. You’ll realize how forgiving the bat placing is but not how your hits should be timed.

Apart from hitting home runs, there’s not much else to do in this game, but they have made it a creative act. You can hit multipliers, send the ball flying in a variety of ways, and even change the way you hit.

There are different ways to hit the ball, but that’s all you’ll be doing in this game. So don’t expect too much from a title that is much smaller than the average VR game.

This game is played from the first-person view, like all good VR games. You won’t be able to see your cleats in the batter’s box, your hands on the bat, or your arms hitting the ball.

The bat is the only thing you’ll see in this game, which is all I really expected. It seemed to me like I was hanging over the home plate more than usual, although it may have been intentional on the part of my player.

Even though this game doesn’t have a lot of stories, the theme is very strong. Not only do you choose the best stadiums, but you also give a lot of information about each one.

As a result, the experience is much more authentic and immersive, taking us back to the excitement of playing during MLB all-star weekend. Even though it’s an arcade game, this game gets a high score because it has a strong theme that stays the same throughout.

It’s also worth noting that this game is compatible with the PC platform and other popular VR headsets, even if you don’t have a PSVR.

Pro Yakyuu Spirits

Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2019 has a complex but not too frustrating experience for enthusiasts of simulation sports games. While pitching, players pick their pitch by selecting a direction on the joystick or control pad, then select the desired target and confirm their choice.

After the throw has started, a shrinking circular prompt appears on the screen, telling you to click the button once more. Tossing a pitch with pinpoint precision requires timing it inside a small range around the target.

If you press the button too soon or too late, the batter might get hit in the head, or you might fall behind the count very quickly.

Figure 8- Pro Yakyuu Spirits has a lot of features for a baseball game

Taking the field is pretty normal here. As soon as the ball is hit into play, you’ll take control of the closest fielder to try to make a defensive stop.

The four face buttons, each of which is linked to a base, are used to throw to the bases. Other usual additions include outfield cut-off throws, dives, and home cut-off throws.

The fielders’ speed, the way the balls are thrown, and the visuals are all great. You can take my word for it that the feel and responsiveness are excellent.

Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2019 has a huge number of different modes and features. First of all, even though this game is called a “2019 game,” Konami is trying to make it last longer by adding a lot of new players and updating the lineup for the 2020 season.

You can choose between the 2019 rosters and the 2020 rosters as soon as the game starts up.

The graphics in PYS 2019 are just amazing. The ballparks look just like the ones in real life. They have the right signs, field details, and more.

With the chants, flags, horns, and other sounds, the atmosphere of Japanese baseball is also perfectly shown (at least before the pandemic). The crowd is also very well done, moving in a natural way and looking very real.

The players themselves are very realistic and look just like the real ones. Animations during batting, home run celebrations, and other things help make the game feel more real.

The option to grasp the resin bag with your pitcher (which increases your pitches) is a fantastic feature. This is all happening at a silky smooth framerate, too.

Baseball Riot

Baseball Riot is a physics-based puzzle game with the kind of brain-teasing but repetitive gameplay you would expect from a simple mobile port.

I found Baseball Riot bright, with vibrant colors, and a lot of fun. It’s best to play it in short bursts because the levels get boring if you play for too long.

This makes it a great fit for the PlayStation Vita, which you can also buy the game for. If you choose the PS4 version, you should know that the touchpad on the DualShock 4 is put to good use.

Baseball Riot is a good game, but it doesn’t do anything new or different. The crazy graphics and story have a certain charm, but I never really felt like I had a lot of fun while playing.

By the end of the game, it was more about going through the motions, like collecting stars and killing bad guys over and over again (using a baseball, mind you). Baseball Riot’s bright colors and strange enemies make it look more interesting than it would have otherwise, but the boring gameplay is what makes it fall short in the end.

Lethal League Blaze

Lethal League Blaze has 3d visuals to make it more realistic

When I think back on my time spent in the first Lethal League, I can’t help but smile. In Lethal League, players compete by trying to strike an anti-gravity ball into their opponent’s face.

This was a simple but effective way to play against my friends and family, and it led to some memorable times. Despite being a competent side-project, that game failed to find an audience.

Everything about it was ridiculously easy but wildly entertaining. The sequel to the popular game Lethal League is out, and it’s called Lethal League Blaze. Almost everything about the second installment is better than the first.

The transition to 3D visuals, which really brings the game to life, is perhaps the most notable change. Even though it is now in 3D, this sequel does a great job of staying true to the original Lethal League’s 2D animation style and extreme, fast-paced gameplay.

Due to this update, a lot of things are now possible that weren’t before.

The gameplay is what makes Lethal League Blaze so addictive. It moves fast, is competitive, encourages creativity, and is just plain fun. Hitting the ball into your opponent(s) is deceptively easy, but there are many details that lend depth to the game.

It’s a lot like racket sports, and the back-and-forth always makes things tenser. You know that one mistake could put an end to a great rally.

At launch, at least, there will be 11 characters to choose from. They’re mostly the same cast as the first Lethal League, with a few new faces thrown in. Boombox, who was the boss in the first game, can now be played as a character in Lethal League Blaze.

That’s more than twice as many characters as the original had at launch, and more are planned for updates after the game’s release. Each character has their own vibe and style, and their joyful personalities are the main thing that makes the game feel real.

I would have liked to see a few more characters, but this is only the studio’s second console game, so I can understand.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why Did 2K Stop Making Baseball Games?

Even back then, The Show had a large audience, but it wasn’t the most played game available. The MLB 2K series wasn’t just a rival, though. One could say that it was the better-known franchise. Then, 2K Sports took down that tent, leaving MLB The Show to take the throne for itself.

2. Why Are MLB Games Blocked?

Major League Baseball has a number of blackout regulations. There are two main considerations for deciding whether or not to black out a game: National broadcasters have to give way to local broadcasters when it comes to showing games of a local team. For a time, for instance, TBS aired many Atlanta Braves matches throughout the United States and even in Canada.

3. Is MLB the Show 22 Fun?

MLB The Show 22 is, for better or worse, a tried-and-true game. The ball game is as good as always, but the video game doesn’t really add anything new for individuals who purchased last year’s installment on PlayStation, and the change that stands out the most doesn’t really help.

4. Are MLB Peacock Games Free?

Peacock has a free version of its streaming service, but if you want to watch the MLB Sunday Leadoff games or any other sports, you have to sign up for Peacock Premium.

5. What’s New in MLB 22?

This year, one of the best things about the game is that you can play as more than 150 Legends, including new ones like Hall of Fame pitchers Randy Johnson and Mike Mussina. Ryan Howard, Joe Mauer, Dontrelle Willis, and a bunch of other great players are also in the game for the first time.

Wrapping Up
